Headteacher Letter 8th Nov 2021
Dear Parents and Carers
I hope that you had a really relaxing half term break and are now back into the rhythm of this new term. We have already seen a return to a greater sense of normality in terms of staff and student absence from school and are hopeful that our risk assessment review with the Somerset Public Health Team this week will enable us to remove some of the control measures that we currently have in place. We will, of course, keep you informed as soon as we have further information to share.
Changes to Roles and Responsibilities
Following Mr Richards’ departure at the end of last term, we have made some new appointments:
- Duke of Edinburgh Programme
Miss Worthy-Jarvis and Mr Nickson both have significant experience of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and will be taking over the leadership of the programme at Ansford. If you have any questions or enquiries in relation to this, please use our new email address for Duke of Edinburgh matters: DofE@ansford.net
- Head of Year 10
Mr Willson has been appointed as temporary Head of Year 10 until the end of this term when Mr Hill, who has been appointed to take on the permanent post, will join the Ansford community. Mr Hill is currently working in Buckinghamshire, where he has been teaching PE for a number of years, and is re-locating back to the South West in December.
We are pleased to inform you that, following a risk assessment, we are able to welcome Tempest, our school photographers, to Ansford on Thursday this week. They will be taking individual photographs of our Year 7 and Year 9 students during the school day at allocated times. There will be an opportunity to view the proof of your child’s photograph via the email contact details that you shared with us and this will include details about how to purchase the photographs and other products.
All students involved in the individual photographs will wear their school uniform for this opportunity. As students do not currently have access to the changing rooms, we have arranged a non-practical lesson for our Year 7 students who have a timetabled PE lesson on Thursday so they do not need their PE kit at all. Year 9 students do not have any timetabled PE lessons on Thursday so will be wearing school uniform so there will not be a need for any adjustments.
We are continuing to run our parents’ evenings virtually until further notice and have had positive feedback about this experience of parents’ evenings. Last week, we held our first parents’ evening of the academic year for Year 11. This was a really important opportunity to discuss progress and for us to work together to support our Year 11 students at this key stage of their school career. Our next parents’ evening is for Year 9 on Thursday 18th November so do look out for information about booking appointments for that event in the near future.
Gathering Your Views about Ansford
It has been a real pleasure getting to know the school community and being able to gather views about the school from both staff and students. Before planning for any changes or development, it is important for me to understand as much as I can about Ansford - especially as it has such a special and unique character. As a result, I would really like to hear from you as parents and carers about your views of the school and its provision for your child(ren). I would be really grateful if you can complete a short survey by 4pm on Friday 12th November using the following link: https://forms.gle/rCW7hDzeNo4Bn9ER9
Moving forward, I will aim to gather your views on a regular basis using both the standard Ofsted Parent View questions that you may be familiar with and questions on particular topics, some of which I am sure will arise from the results of this first survey. Please note that this survey is not for collecting individual concerns or specific issues as these should be addressed through the usual channels.
We have received notification this afternoon that the planned dates for the COVID and flu vaccinations here at Ansford are Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd November. We will be sharing further information, including the consent forms on behalf of the School Aged Immunisation Nursing Team (SAINT) as soon as we can. There is no need to communicate with us directly about the vaccination process as this will all be dealt with by SAINT.
Useful Free Learning Resource
We are able to share access to a free online resource which provides access to a wide range of online lessons that take place after school, providing opportunities to develop and enhance learning. You can access the live lessons and materials via the website: www.mygetahead.org It is also possible to download the Get Ahead app which will send reminders and notifications about live lessons which can then be joined via the phone. All information about how to do this can be accessed via the Get Ahead website.
As usual, please contact the school by email to email@example.com or by phone to 01963 350895 if you have any questions, queries or concerns.
