Miss Hirst, Head of Transition, says …
Students have benefited enormously from having this experience.
The uptake from students was significant with only 24 students not participating out of 120, this meant that those who came were able to meet other people in their tutor groups and engage in fun activities that helped to create bonds and friendships. It was evident from their first day in September that the students who attended are confident around the school site as they know where all their classrooms and facilities are, they know key members of staff and feel like Ansford Academy is ‘theirs’, the difference to the previous year group is significant in how quickly it has taken them to settle into Year 7.
Parents were overwhelmingly positive and grateful for the opportunity for their child to attend, particularly given that we were unable to hold any in school transition days in July. If we were fortunate enough to have the chance to run a similar experience again next year then I would wholeheartedly support this; I would love to do it every year.
