PE at Ansford ranges from the highly competitive to fun and recreational and there is something for everyone. Extra-curricular clubs are very well attended, and students are more than happy to spend their lunch times training in the wind and driving rain to be the best they can be to represent the school in teams or doing some PE in out well-equipped hall over lunchtimes.
During the Autumn term, Hockey is the primary sport with years 8-11 playing regular league matches both at Ansford and in the South Somerset District to compete for a place at Hockey District Finals. In the 2012/2013 season, all teams made it to finals, and the year 8s were crowned District Champions. Many students are in local clubs, and represent the county and above at various sports, and take great pride in themselves.
We also have a new riding team which has started with great success, with Katie Christer from year 9 bringing home a 1st Place in Ansford's first event. Team competitions will become more available during the Spring term.
Netball is the Spring term's sport, with all years showing a great turnout to clubs and training, and we hope for more success on the court following some great performances last season.
During the Summer Term we focus on Rounders and Athletics where we really do shine at Ansford. Due to bad weather last year District finals could not be played, but the forthcoming season looks promising.
Alongside these sports during Ansford Extra students can do rugby, football, basketball, climbing, table tennis, tampolining, badminton and kickboxing, and we hope to start Archery in the Summer term.
External specialised coaches are often brought in to run these sessions to ensure students have the best possible opportunities at Ansford.
