Our Aims

Ansford Academy is a mixed comprehensive school of 640 students, 40 teaching staff and 30 support staff.   The Principal is Rob Benzie.

We serve a large rural catchment area in south- east Somerset.  About 100 students in the academy come from beyond our catchment area.   We have proved to be a very popular academy.

Community

Ansford Academy is a learning community. Relationships between students - and between students and staff - are very good, enabling our young people to achieve their fullest potential and to develop as happy, confident and well-rounded individuals.

Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the wide range of activities on offer as well as contribute to the academy through posts of responsibility.

Academy Aims

We aim to:

  • Ensure that individuals develop intellectually, physically and emotionally, aspiring to do their very best.

  • Celebrate achievement, providing a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere in which learning and inquisitiveness are valued.

  • Help individuals develop their interests, encouraging them to participate in opportunities available.

  • Help individuals to understand the world about them, developing in them empathy and interest in the needs of others.

  • Highlight and develop those standards which society finds estimable, establishing an ethos in which they are modelled and well taught.

  • Work collaboratively with educational partners and the wider community to effectively support the needs of individuals.

Our students

The school has a fully comprehensive intake, with an above-average proportion of very able students.

There is effective additional support for students requiring it and a Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator organises activities for students with exceptional abilities.

That said, we are absolutely committed to ensuring equal value is given to everyone in the academy and various intervention strategies are used to help get the best for every student.

About 85% of our students go on to further education and a further 10% go into modern apprenticeships.

Many students build on their education at Ansford Academy to go on to university.

Outstanding staff

Our staff team are ambitious and highly committed. We take the professional development of all staff seriously and have used Investors in People as a means to assess our effectiveness in this area.

A good number of staff have developed their careers here and help provide a stable community in which students can develop.
